Why is Mickey Mouse more popular than Donald Duck in the USA?

In the Dutch newspaper someone wrote that the magazine 'Donald Duck' don't exist anymore in the USA because Americans like Mickey Mouse more, because Americans want to be 'winners' and Mickey is so 'perfect', he is a role model for them. In the Netherlands, Donald is very popular, because he is not perfect and funny. I myself think Mickey is annoying, because he does never make faults.

4. well mickey mouse is like the mascot for disney world, but people like donald duck too. and we americans don't look up to him by the way, i mean hes just a cartoon character? maybe to a five year old but he doesn't really teach life lessons(well except to following your dreams but thats just the whole disney theme)

6. Actually, Donald is very popular in the US. As a cartoon character, he is probably more popular than Mickey, because more people can relate to him and how he reacts to situations. As an icon, though, Mickey is the logo of two major theme park resorts and an entertainment industry giant. His appearance and the famous "mouse ears" logo are found all over these locations. Perhaps this is why you see Mickey as more popular in the US.
