What do pregnant mickey mouse fish do before giving birth?
We know that our Mickey Mouse fish was pregnant and already had her fry but there is only 2. We started with 4 mickey mouse fish unsure of the genders. They all seem to be hiding in this plastic black hole in the bottom of the tank and now there is 2 fry. Not sure why they are living in there still but the babies are hiding in a pirate ship away from them. Not sure why they seperated them selves any advice?

- A pregnant female livebearer ready to deliver will most likely separate herself away from the rest of the fish. She'll either eat a lot or eat nothing at all. Some females can be seen hovering above the substrate or sitting right on it, or there is a possibility that she'll be hovering by the filter. All females are different, so it's just a matter of their personalities. You'll need to figure out the genders of your fish if you want to keep them properly. A group of three females should be put with only one male, otherwise the males will overpower the females and chase them, literally, to death. It's a possibility that she only gave birth to two fry because she was stressed, or simply because the others were eaten, or that she's not done giving birth. They're separating themselves because they're newborns! They're probably terrified, that's why they're not out there socializing. Give them time and keep the lights off in the tank for a few days to help them adjust better.
- she will go into a different area away from the rest of the fish or go into hiding.
